Awards Presentation Will Be Televised, Dec. 21st, in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Los Angeles, CA -- Fox Pan American Sports LLC, one of the the world’s largest Spanish-language sports television companies, announced today that it will honor the achievements of U.S. Hispanic and Latin American athletes at a newly created annual awards show, Premios Fox Sports.

The inaugural Premios Fox Sports will take place on Wednesday, December 17, 2003 in Miami, and will honor top athletes in a variety of sports, including soccer, baseball, motor sports, tennis and golf. Special awards will be given in recognition of top athletic achievements and contributions to the sports world during 2003.

The growing presence of Latinos in sports has bolstered their visibility internationally, and they continue to achieve significant milestones. Latino baseball players in Major League Baseball now number 195 and represent more than 23% of the big leagues’ rosters.

The auto racing world features six Mexican drivers competing in this season’s Champ Car World Series, while earlier this month, the LPGA named Mexican golfer Lorena Ochoa the Rolex Rookie of the Year for 2003.

"With the growing prominence of Hispanic athletes in all sports, this newly created awards show  will give proper recognition to their achievements,” said David Sternberg, General Manager of Fox Sports Latin America and Fox Sports en Español. “We look forward to the celebration in Miami and are grateful to our telecast sponsors, marketing partners, presenters and performers for supporting these athletes and making this event possible.”

The awards show will be televised on Sunday, December 21 and reach more than 17 million households across the Americas. Fox Sports en Español is televising the awards show nationally in the United States, while Fox Sports Latin America will air it throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Sponsors of the inaugural Premios Fox Sports include General Motors, Sears, Johnnie Walker, Miller Beer, Konica, Adidas, American Airlines, McDonald’s and Pennzoil.

The International Kids Fund, a division of the Miami-based Jackson Memorial Foundation, is the official charity of Premios Fox Sports.  A portion of the proceeds from the evening’s events will benefit the International Kids Fund and help provide critically ill children from Latin America and the Caribbean with life-saving medical care that is unavailable in their country of origin.

The Premios Fox Sports awardees will reflect the judgment of sports fans from across the Americas.  From July through September of this year, Fox Sports viewers were given the opportunity to vote for their favorite nominees on-line at the Premios Fox Sports web site located on Parallel to the voting, one lucky fan and a guest won an on-line contest for a VIP trip to attend Premios Fox Sports.

The list of award categories on the on-line ballot includes prizes for outstanding achievement in soccer, auto racing, baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, boxing and coaching, plus a selection of special awards for distinguished contributions to the world of sport. Premios Fox Sports will also honor one outstanding Latino athlete of the year who has achieved global recognition for his or her athletic performance.

Fox Pan American Sports LLC is an international sports programming and production entity jointly owned by Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst; Fox Entertainment Group (NYSE: FOX) and News Corporation’s (NYSE: NWS) Fox Sports International; and Liberty Media Corporation.
