Estefan to be inducted into the Florida's Women Hall
of Fame
November
18, 2003 -- Entertainer Gloria Estefan will be among three women inducted Monday into the Florida Women's Hall of Fame.
Educator Sarah Ann Blocker and legislative pioneer Mary Grizzle will also be enshrined at Monday's ceremony at the Capitol Rotunda. Lieutenant Governor Toni Jennings will preside over the ceremony.
The Cuban-born Estefan is considered one of the most successful Latin artists to cross over into the mainstream as a singer and songwriter. She has won a Latin Grammy and three regular Grammy awards and makes her home in Miami.
Blocker was only 22 years old when she founded Florida Memorial College back in 1879. She died in 1944. The 82-year-old Grizzle was the first female Republican to serve in the Florida Legislature. She was elected to the Florida House 40 years ago.
