Shakira named the 2011 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year

October 2011 -- Colombian singer, Shakira has been named the 2011 Latin Recording Academy person of the year.

The seven-time Latin Grammy winner will be honored Nov. 9 at the 12th annual Tribute Gala in Las Vegas for her artistic and philanthropic contributions. Friends and notable artists will salute her with their own versions of her songs during the gala.

The 34-year-old becomes the youngest person of the year to receive the tribute. Previous recipients include Placido Domingo, Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias and Ricky Martin.

Shakira called the award “truly an honor” in a statement she released to the public.

Shakira is also nominated for three Latin Grammy Awards: Best Female Pop Vocal Album ("Sale el Sol"), Album of the Year ("Sale el Sol") and Best Short Form Music Video ("Loca").

The Latin Grammys will broadcast live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Nov. 10.

Other nominees include:
Ricki Martin, Best Short Form Music Video for "Lo Mejor De Mi Vida Eres Tu" and Mana, Best Rock Album by a Duo or a Group With Vocal for "Drama Y Luz."

For Best Urban Music Album: Calle 13 "Entren Los Que Quieran," Don Omar "Don Omar Presents Meet the Orphans," Pitbull "Armando," Ivy Queen "Drama Queen," and Wisin y Yandel "Los Vaqueros: El Regreso."
