Jennifer Lopez is taping into her Puerto Rican roots by releasing an all-Spanish album later on this
year to prove to her critics that she can sing in both languages.
The album, which is currently titled, "Como Ama Una
Mujer," features a collection of "big ballads" written and produced by Estefano
along with some collaboration from her famed husband, singer Marc Anthony.
Estafano, who has worked with Gloria Estefan, John Secada, Shakira, Chayanne and
others, said people will be surprised with Lopez’s strong voice: "You will be surprised with this woman's album. You will be surprised to
see this singer. These are big songs that require a voice."
According to reports, Lopez is desperate for ‘Como Ama Una Mujer’
to be a success after her last album ‘Rebirth’ fell short of
expectations. "This is a very special project, a passion project." said Lopez during an interview in Puerto Rico. I met
[songwriter/producer] Estefano, and he's a brilliant writer. Everything just
started flowing, and we put together several incredible songs.
Lopez is also keeping busy with her acting career. She just finished filming of "El Cantante" (The Singer) based on the life of Hector Lavoe.
The film is being produced by Lopez, who stars as Lavoe's wife Puchi, while her
husband Marc Anthony stars as Lavoe.
She has also agreed to star in an upcoming
romantic comedy entitled Bridge and Tunnel, which is about a stock trader who who relies on a teenager who trades over the internet. The film is expected to begin production in the late
Spring. In 2000, another Latin diva,
Christina Aguilera, released an all-Spanish album named "Mi Reflejo."
Christina's Debut Spanish album surpassed expectations and sold millions of
copies in its first months. It was #1 Latin CD on the billboard charts for more
than 11 weeks. |
