October
18, 2005 -- Reggaeton superstar, Daddy Yankee and his
hypnotic beats and rap lyrics continues to be a target in the eyes of many
music executives who want to attract Latinos worldwide.
The latest deal with
"Yankee", whose real name is Raymond Ayala, is a multi-year agreement
with ABC Radio to produce his own radio show. The agreement calls for ABC to develop and distribute a two-hour weekly show primarily targeting 18-to-34-year-old Latinos, the fastest-growing segment of the Hispanic population.
The Daddy Yankee Radio Show is expected to run on Saturday evenings beginning this fall. The all-Spanish language program will feature music and interviews and
more.
“We like to bring star power to a national platform and there is no hotter guy in Hispanic music than Daddy Yankee,” said Darryl Brown, executive
VP and general manager of ABC Radio Networks.
"I am proud to be the first reggaeton artist to have his own nationally
syndicated radio show," Yankee said.
Hispanics are the fastest growing segment of the population. The group's
buying power is currently $766 billion, and will approach $1.1 trillion by
2010.
“You can’t get away from Reggaeton. There’s big crossover there especially in markets with high density Hispanic populations,” said Brown. ABC
has been adding Spanish-language stars with the goal of capturing more
Hispanic ad dollars. Through a deal with Hispanic media giant Spanish
Broadcasting System, ABC Radio syndicates three Hispanic radio programs,
including El Vacilon de la Mañana with Luis Jimenez and Moonshadow, which
originates on New York station.
