U.S. Bank introduces credit card that generates
scholarships for Latinas
September 12, 2005 -- U.S. Bank has partnered with LATINA Style to bring to the market the LATINA Style Visa(R) Platinum card that generates money for Latina scholarships each time a new card is activated and every time that card is used. The scholarships will help Latinas gain new opportunities, advance their careers and succeed.
Latinas are one of the fastest growing segments of the working sector. There are seven million Latina women in the United States workforce, a number that is increasing at an accelerated rate, according to Robert Bard, president and chief executive officer of LATINA Style Magazine. Latina owned businesses number nearly 600,000, employing more than 350,000 people with revenues exceeding $50 billion. This segment of businesses is growing at three times the national rate.
"We are delighted to partner with U.S. Bank in the launching of the LATINA Style credit card. With all the benefits of a traditional credit card, and a percentage of every purchase funding scholarships for Latinas, LATINA Style and U.S. Bank continue to excel in creating and providing services and to the Latina working woman," said Bard.
The card, which depicts a smiling Latina in the midst of her day, offers cardholders no annual fee and a low introductory interest rate on purchases and balance transfers for six months. (Certain conditions apply, and the introductory rate does not include cash advances.) Cardholders may also choose the kind of reward that they earn from the card through the "Name Your Own Reward" program. College students have the opportunity to redeem their points for CDs, MP3 players, movie tickets, meals and calling cards.
"U.S. Bank has long supported Hispanic women, men and families by providing innovative products and services tailored to their needs," said Alice Perez, Hispanic market manager for U.S. Bank. "We are thrilled to partner with an equally innovative organization, LATINA Style, to create a product that is both valuable to the cardholder and gives a financial boost to Latina women who are on the road to success."
LATINA Style identified U.S. Bank as one of the top 50 best places for Latinas to work in the United States. The magazine cited U.S. Bank's demonstrated commitment to diversity, hiring and promoting Latinas at all levels of the organization, its mentorship program and workplace benefits as factors leading to the company's inclusion on the list.
Applications for the LATINA Style Visa Platinum card are available by calling 1-800-853-5576, ext. 8578. Scholarship recipients will be selected annually.
