boy band

March
10, 2004 -- Remember the all-boy Latin pop group, Menudo of the
late 70's and 80's? Well, they're making a comeback with all new members.
Menudo, which launched the career of superstar pop singer, Ricky Martin, will conduct an international star search to
form a new band with the old name.
An open audition in New York this summer for boys ages 10 to 14 will kick off the search for the next members of the singing and dancing group
which started the boy band craze before acts like Backstreet Boys and NSYNC.
The original Menudo band started out with five Puerto Rican teenagers in
1977 and while constantly changing the cast, had a two-decade run performing all over the world while putting out
hit records, like the ballad "If You're Not Here," "Tu Sabes A
Chocolate" and "Sube A Mi Motora" from the 1982 album Quiero Ser.
By the end of the '80s, Menudo sold over 20 million records.
The new Menudo will have "a contemporary hip urban/Latin crossover sound in both English and Spanish," Menudo Entertainment LLC said in a news release.
