Woman pays $47,200 to dine with Ricky Martin

December 7, 2004 -- In a charity auction on eBay sponsored by Godiva, fans had the chance to bid on dinner parties with stars including Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio, Benjamin Bratt and Sarah Jessica Parker – but the one who inspired the largest bid was Ricky Martin.

Jody Lang, a 34-year-old consultant, is so loca about the Latin singer that she bid $47,200 to have dinner with him at Chef Allen's in Florida last weekend.

A flattered Ricky Martin told People magazine: 'We were thinking about it on the way (to the restaurant) and it's like, what are we going to do, we have to do something besides this.'

Lang, dressed in red for the eventful dinner, was content enough to just eat with her dream-beau.

'It's a ton of money, but it's a dream come true and an opportunity of a lifetime,' she said. 'For that, I don't know if you can really put a price on it. He represents so much to me. He's an international spokesman who works with children. I'm an avid salsa and Latin dancer. I love his music. At his shows, he has a way to bring everyone together no matter what your background. He has this infectious power that is just beautiful.'

Money raised from this event will go to the Ricky Martin Foundation, which is then put toward the People for Children Project, the organization that raises awareness on exploitation of children and sex trafficking. It was a great night for Lang, and because of her donation, public service announcements will be set for every country in Latin America.

The other dinners will raise money for various causes including the prevention of global warming and UNICEF.
