Emilio Estefan in search of the "Latin"

Estefan is taking a page of the very popular FOX reality show "American
Idol" and creating a Latin version called, "Nuevas Voces
de America."
Estefan, one of the biggest names in Latin music is
responsible for the careers of singers Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, Jon Secada
and many others. Nuevas Voces de America, or New Voices of America is set to air
February 13th from Miami Beach,
Fla. Open auditions were held in New York, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
"Having the contestants get ready for the judges is all going to be part of the show, so we'll be giving them makeovers, dance lessons and singing lessons on camera. It's going to be a lot of fun,"
said Estefan who insists the show is not a clone of American Idol.
20 lucky contestants from various nationalities will their singing, dancing and stage presence judged by
some of the biggest names in Latin music. Estefan says candidates need to be able to sing in Spanish.
But more importantly, they need to sound original. The show will last 15 weeks
until someone is crowned "Nueva Voz de América" (New Voice of
America).
"I want something totally new and fresh when it comes to sound, voices and personality," he says, "because this is going to be a great window for the Latino community to showcase its talent." If

The final winner of "Nuevas Voces de America" will receive a grand prize that includes a $250,000 contract with a record company.
